Manley Mere is a family-run business in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, which began in 1984 when Mike and Jane Houlbrooke transformed part of their working dairy farm by digging the lake you see today. Over the years, it has grown into a busy outdoor activity centre, offering everything from sailing, paddleboarding and open-water swimming to our Aqua Park, Adventure Trail, café, events and lakeside accommodation.

Today, it is still family run by Kate, Mike and Jane’s daughter, and her husband Alastair, alongside a fantastic team, many of whom return season after season.

Manley Mere has never been about becoming a big corporate attraction; we enjoy being an independent family business where we can try new ideas, get to know our customers and create a relaxed, friendly place where people can have fun, challenge themselves and make great memories.

Meet Kate

We’ve always loved being outdoors and on the water, so much of what we do for work overlaps with what we enjoy in our free time – watersports, travelling, spending time with family and generally being outside. My Husband Alastair and I also love our Rhodesian Ridgeback - Nala - who we get out and about with to take her for a walk!

Over the years we’ve developed Manley Mere to include The Chameleon Cafe in the old milking parlour, We offer our grounds and garden as a wedding venue, and now even have our Tiny Houses where you can stay the night!

We’ve always been nature lovers, and the environmentally sustainable side of Manley Mere is a big personal project too. We’ve planted hundreds of acres of trees as well as use renewable energy and electric vehicles.
